Because mobility issues are similar in Canada as they are in the US, it is a great destination to go to internationally, even if your mobility is limited. You have a chance to experience a different country and still be able to enjoy the same mobility that you’re used to today.
That said Canada is much like the US. When you want to travel abroad, you want to experience very different cultures and locations. Because of this, you might find that you want to really go abroad and go to someplace exotic. You are looking for someplace much further away with great accessibility for people of limited mobility. Australia is a really good bet Australia has a long history of making their attractions hotels and buildings as accessible as possible for those of limited mobility. It’s even possible to take trips to the outback taking along your wheelchair along with you so you can see all the wonderful sights, sounds and adventures that Australia offers. Imagine being able to see Ayers rock or be able to search for the Tasmanian Devil near Hobart. The countries of Western Europe such as France, Germany, the UK and the Netherlands, are all fairly wheelchair accessible. This is slowly changing as hotels and attractions realize that their properties should be accessible to as many people as possible. Unfortunately, this retrofitting is expensive but it slowly changing. This means that a trip to the western European countries can sometimes be about the adventure of seeing interesting places. While the above mentioned destinations are great places for people with limited mobility to visit, there aren’t many in Latin America for those with limited mobility. Some are less accessible than others. While you may enjoy a trip to Mexico or Cancun to experience everything that Mexico has to offer, you might find that things are not nearly as accessible as you would expect. Yes, the major hotels are wheelchair accessible, especially those made in the last 10 to 15 years, but the streets and other buildings are just not as accessible to people with limited mobility. You may find that your vacation consists entirely of staying in the hotel resort rather than being able to go out to different places throughout the city and enjoy all that Cancun or Mexico can offer. If you are interested in visiting Latin America, surprisingly Uruguay is a great choice. With a long history of accessibility, it is possible to enjoy a vacation in Uruguay without coming against severe mobility issues. For this reason Uruguay is one of the top destinations for those with limited mobility in all Latin America.
